The Literacy Narrative, A Discourse Community Analysis, And A Writing Research Essay Example For Students
The Literacy Narrative, A Discourse Community Analysis, And A Writing Research Essay In my English 1010 class, I have learned to do a number of things through writing essays. I have written a Literacy Narrative, a Discourse Community Analysis, and a Writing Research essay. Firstly, I have learned to identify how an authorââ¬â¢s purpose, audience, genre, and context determine effective writing. The purpose of the literacy narrative was to help me understand myself better as a writer (Jones 1). My teacher was the intended audience of the narrative. The genre of the narrative was non-fiction by cause of it being about my experience as a writer. The context of writing made my writing more interesting and more effective. Knowing those elements helps you to compose writing that is more effective due to you needing to know what you need to write about and who is receiving your writing. I displayed these skills by going into detail about my experiences with reading and writing through my life. As shown in the following sentence from my literacy narrative I shared how fun and exciting it was when my second-grade class received the opportunity to write a book, A Book of Future Astronauts, ââ¬Å"Everyone in the class was truly excited to be writing our own book,â⬠(Writing is Good). I showed that I accomplished the goal of knowing how to discover, develop, and explain ideas through writing processes that include generating, planning, revising, editing, and proofreading multiple drafts of a text in my discourse community analysis. Guide on Writing a Research Paper Outline
Guide on Writing a Research Paper Outline Guide on Writing a Research Paper Outline A research paper is one of the most difficult assignments both at high school and college, so you need to be ready to face various challenges along the way. This type of a paper requires your full attention and time devotion, as you need to use various scientific tools, mathematical methods, statistics and other instruments to back your ideas and put your thoughts on the paper. That is why creating an outline is a crucial part of any research paper and requires a thoughtful approach. It is a sort of a skeleton of your paper, as it will greatly help you to remember all the things you wanted to include to your work. In addition, you will be more relaxed after dividing your work into smaller parts and will be able to concentrate on different questions every day. An outline will always be helpful in meeting the deadlines, as you will have a clear picture of how many sections you still need to complete by a certain date and wonââ¬â¢t have to worry about missing anything! Useful tips on a proper outline structure It doesnââ¬â¢t matter whether you need to complete an outline on a Medieval history or on a space invasion: your outline structure will remain the same. This means that you wonââ¬â¢t have to puzzle over a proper structure depending on the subject and after remembering all the details, you will always be able to complete an outline without any difficulties. Any outline consists of three main parts: Introduction; Body of the paper; Conclusions. However, you shouldnââ¬â¢t think that it is as easy, as A-B-C, because every of these parts contains a huge volume of information and it should be arranged in a proper way. Your introduction section can be called a business card of your whole work, so you need to be very thoughtful and attentive, when completing it.à After reading your introduction, the reader will make up his mind whether to go on reading. That is why your main aim is to catch interest of the audience and provide it with such details, as the thesis statement, main information, specific terms and additional details on the subject. The body of your whole work is the biggest section of the whole paper, which requires a lot of time and attention to the details. Donââ¬â¢t forget to include various paragraphs to emphasize different topics. This section should also include methodology, which explains the research you have conducted, the methods you have used and the questions you have answered. Remember to write down the main goals of your research (which should also be included to your introduction section). Every research paper is based on a serious analysis of different sources and materials, so you should remember to add a list of used sources. Donââ¬â¢t forget to quote the literature to support your research and try to show that you have mastered various tools of looking for a necessary information. However, include only relevant and academic sources, avoiding forums and social media pages. After you have written the methodology and literature sections, you need to remember to add data and analysis information. Here you need to describe the results of your research and any other details, which you have obtained throughout the assignment. The best way to complete this section is to use graphs and tables for a clearer understanding of the topic. Close this part with the main advantages and disadvantages of the research. When the body section is completed, it is time to write down the conclusions. Here you donââ¬â¢t need to provide new details and simply should summarize everything you have written about in your research paper. Include a thesis statement to your conclusions and try to make predictions for the future, providing fresh ideas on the topic. Useful advice One of the best parts of any research paper is the fact that most of the times you can choose a topic on your own. In such a way, you will always stay motivated and write on the things that really matter. For example, you can complete a research on an artificial intelligence, rain forests or modern trends and give a fresh look on any topic. Not depending on the topic you choose, your outline will look like a list of the main ideas you want to include to your research paper. It should be short and contain all the key words to let you remember the question and your main ideas on the topic. After finishing a certain paragraph, just cross it out and you will never be confused what to write about! Research paper outline examples Thesis: Is modern educational system ready to give students all the social skills for their adult lives? Introduction to the topic, thesis statement; Methodology; Overview of the literature you have used in your research; Importance of the topic and its influence on the society. The main body should contain: Information on the background of your issue History of the development of US educational system; Modern educational approaches in various states. Positive aspects of the topic: Remembering that education is affordable and accessible for each and every one; Mentioning that modern educational system is able to cope with the most difficult problems, becoming a second home for many students; Schools become bridges of communication and interaction for a healthy social life in future. Negative aspects of schoolââ¬â¢s impact on the personality: Main problems students have to face, including bullying, discrimination and so on; A high level of competition, which often leads to problems between students, low self-esteem or even suicides. Final thoughts should consist of your conclusions and final words on the topic. Conclusions should contain analysis of all the information and repetition of your thesis statement. Final words need to provide your recommendations for the future and the way your research can be applied on practice. Thesis: à Birth control: pros and cons. Your outline should consist of the following sections: Introduction to the topic; A list of medical or any other specific terms and their description for the readers to be able to understand your research; Theoretical background of your paper; Methodology and tools used throughout the paper; Thesis statement; Literature overview; Relevance of the topic, its importance for the society. The main body should contain: Information on the background of your issue: A historical background of birth control, main aspects and issues across the world; Position of various institutions on the subject, including government, church and others; Information on the tools and methods that are used to control birth in the US. Alternative methods; Advantages and disadvantages of birth control. Final section should consist of: Conclusions with a brief analysis of all the obtained information on the subject and rewritten thesis statement; Final thoughts on the problem. Here you need to make a prognosis for the future and describe how your research paper can influence the matter.

Why and How Retailers Internationalize - H&M Literature review
Why and How Retailers Internationalize - H&M - Literature review Example There are a number of reasons and motivations for the retailers including H&M to internationalize. One of these motivators is retail expansion due to saturation in the local market. Other motivators for internationalization are resource seeking, market seeking, efficiency seeking and strategic asset seeking. Resource seeking and market seeking are usually motivators for a firmââ¬â¢s initial internationalization strategy, while the other two are for sequential internationalization. After motivation triggers the internationalisation process, the retail firms has to study the market to be entered, so they can optimally position themselves there. Number of factors will help the firms including H&M in market positioning, thereby aiding them in carrying out the operations aptly. These typically include selecting the right target market, studying and understanding the competitive environment, then accordingly formulating steps to improve their competitive position, having a strong store brand image, and controlling the supply chain. Another very important factor that would determine success is the mode of market entry. There are a number of modes but the most common ones are licensing, franchising and joint ventures. These modes are only followed by number of retailers including H&M while expanding overseas. There are others entry options such as acquisition, mergers and contracts, but is not a part of the scope of this paper. This paper will review existing literature on reasons why retailers internationalize ââ¬â Motivation for Internationalization, in brief. These are fundamentally the same for many firms, retail or non-retail. Moreover, market position that ensures that an internationalization strategy is a success in foreign shores will be discussed. Finally, how retailers internationalize or methods they use to enter new markets will also be discussed concisely. All of this will be discussed keeping in mind the practical case of the renowned fashion

The Effects of Economic Aid to Third World Nations Term Paper
The Effects of Economic Aid to Third World Nations - Term Paper Example This question has been repeatedly being asked and emphasized on by various scholars over a long period of period. In 1972, Papanek was the first one to develop a constructive relationship between growth and aid. In 1985, Singh also seconded Papanek that a cohesive relation exists between the economic growth and aid in Third World nations. In 1993, Synder also propagated the ideas of Papanek and Singh but taking into consideration the size of the country. In 1997, Dollar and Burnside acknowledged this positive relation on the premise that it works nicely if the country is meticulous in making policies and it also implements policies according to donor countries, policymakers in beneficiaryââ¬â¢s countries and also considers multilateral support firms. In 1999, El-Kaissay and Fayissa profound into this thought and reap the same positive correlation. (Duc) Aids come in several forms; for instance food assistance, military aid, humanitarian emergency support, etc. The growth aid has a lways been recognized as important for helping poor nations of the world to bring them out of impoverishment. The affluent nations of the world decided to give aid of 0.7% of their Gross National Income to poor nations in 1970 as an official global development support each year. But this target has never been achieved. Regardless of the fact that countries have given billions of dollars in cash to poor countries each year they have never met the standard set by them. Some scholars believe that aid has a pessimistic affect on the development of developing countries. In 2000, Knack argued that excessive aid destroys the quality of government, exploits it, and augments the corruption in that region and thus growth is affected negatively. In 2003, Roodman, Levine, and Easterly examined a huge sample size to test the premise of Dollar and Burnside, and the result they found didnââ¬â¢t quite support the positive relation proposed by Dollar and Burnside. (Schoolland) Every rose has a th orn. And thus aid does not come for free. It bears an expensive price to the developing nations. Mostly, the top most condition for aid is that the recipient country must buy over expensive services and goods from the donor nations. Also, the amount of aid is planned and set by affluent countries that following their protectionist policies restrict poor nations to access the market. Most assistance does not really go to the poor nations who are in most need of it. Furthermore, huge projects or enormous striking strategies are deemed to failure to assist the susceptible as mostly, money is used the wrong way. On the contrary, it has also been observed that developing countries with strong economic policies and high-quality governmental institutions have augmented their growth with aid rather than without it. The Gross Domestic Product of countries receiving aid has increased by 2.7% per capita in contrast to countries not receiving aid, with 0.5% per capita. But, some countries who o nly received some aid have achieved a 2.2& per capita of growth. It all basically depends how the aid is utilized; a sound management and high-support by rich countries leads to 3.7% per capital Gross Domestic Product according to World Bank. (Bovard, 1996) Letââ¬â¢s look at the impact foreign aid has on some countries. The current experience of South Asian countries is exemplary. With foreign aid, Bangladesh has

Legalizing Marijuana Essay Example for Free
Legalizing Marijuana Essay Cannabis Sativa, more commonly known as Marijuana, is made up of dried parts of the Cannabis hemp plant and is the most commonly used illegal drug in the United States. For centuries, people all over the world have been using marijuana to achieve ââ¬Å"euphoriaâ⬠, but the drug has remained illegal in the United States despite countless efforts to reverse the law. In the last few years, the legalization of Marijuana became both a prominent and controversial issue in our country and remains an extremely touchy subject. Despite its short term effect of distorted perceptions and memory impairment, Marijuana has several proââ¬â¢s that can not only help individuals but could benefit our country as a whole. These ââ¬Å"prosâ⬠include medical use, a boost in our economy, the creation of an entire hemp industry, and the lowering of crime rates. The use of marijuana for medical purposes dates back centuries to doctors of the western hemisphere. Because of their initial use of the hemp plant to help alleviate pain, doctors of the 18th century were able to develop the use of the drug and determine its uses in the medical field. It was classified as an illegal drug by many countries, including the US in the 20th century. Over the past 30 years, there has been a growing movement to legalize marijuana, primarily for medical use. In fact, several studied show that marijuana can even be good for your health and help with the treatment of other conditions. Medical marijuana has aided in the treatment of Alzheimers Disease, Epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, Glaucoma, Arthritis, Depression, Anxiety, and different types of cancer. The American Cancer Society says that, Marijuana has anti-bacterial properties, inhibits tumor growth, and enlarges the airways, which they believe can ease the severity of asthma attacks. There have also been hundreds of studies done to show the benefits of using marijuana as a type of treatment. So far, 18 states have legalized medical marijuana, and several other states are fighting for those same laws. Other states are struggling to pass the law because the belief in how the drug can harm people. Though several doctors including, Dr. Lester Grinspoon have stated that there has never been a death reported from marijuana. In fact, Dr. Paul Hornby, a biochemist and leading authority on cannabis research stated, ââ¬Å"Ive heard you have to smoke something like 15,000 joints in 20 minutes to get a toxic amount of delta-9à tetrahydrocannibinol and I challenge anyone to do that.Meanwhile it is known information that anyone can die from ingesting to much alcohol, aspirin, or even wate r. Legalizing the drug, especially for medical use, can help ease the pain of thousands of people and even help to save lives. Legalizing marijuana would lead to an increase in our economy. Due to the fact that the illegal drug is used widely across our country, the Federal Government spends billions of dollars each year in order to decrease and prevent the trafficking of it. According to Dr. Miron Replacing marijuana prohibition with a system of legal regulation would save approximately $7.7 billion in government expenditures on prohibition enforcement ââ¬â $2.4 billion at the federal level and $5.3 billion at the state and local levels.â⬠In our current economic situation, this would be considered a ââ¬Å"smart moveâ⬠. Besides it saving our country billions of dollars a year, it can potentially also increase our entire revenue due to tax dollars. Because production cost for marijuana is very low, the government can mark up the price significantly and tax it like alcohol and cigarettes. The legalization of marijuana would lead to the creation of an entire hemp based industry, which will lead to the creation of thousands of jobs. Hemp fibers from the stalks of the plant have countless of other uses besides its general purpose. The oil extracted from the seeds could be used for fuel and the fiber extracted from the hemp strand could be spun and woven into linen like fabric. This fabric will be usable for apparel textiles, home furniture textiles, and even carpeting. When combined with cotton or wool, hemp strengthens the fabric making it breathable and more comfortable to wear. Hemp can be made into rope, clothing, and even paper. More importantly, the creation of this industry will bring upon thousands of jobs for people in our country. Currently, our country exceeds more then $300 million in annual retail sales and the numbers continue to ride. Industrial hemp could generate thousands of sustainable job, helping our country to get back on track. Patrick Goggin, a bo ard member on the California Could for Vote Hemp, the nations leading industrial hemp-farming advocacy group stated, Were in the midst of a dark economic transition, but I believe hemp is an important facet and has tremendous economic potential.â⬠Another benefit accrued through legalizing marijuana would be a significant reduction in crime rates. Since Marijuana is currently illegal, it is sold on the streets country wide. Thousands purchase the drug from dealers, putting their lives and reputations at risk, simply because it is the only method to attain it. Both drug dealers and gangs fight to sell the drug in the street, causing their deaths and the deaths of innocent people. Legalizing the drug help decrease the street wars and gang violence by taking the ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠to sell out of the hands of dealers, and into the hands of the government. Since the drug will be legalized, it will be available in the same locations as cigarettes and alcohol, decreasing crime across the United States. After going over the various proââ¬â¢s that come along with legalizing the drug, it is hard to see why marijuana is still illegal in our country. In my opinion, the only reason for it not being legalized is the amount of money and jobs that were invested in the drug war. The United States Government takes great pride in their war on drugs and have put countless efforts in to show the potential dangers of the drug. In other words, the government looks defeated if they begin to revise laws and turn back. Another reason it hasnt been legalized is due to the protection of the reputation of political figures. Politicians assume that by supporting the legalization of marijuana, they are automatically condoning it. Though in reality, this isnt true at all. There are many positive benefits of legalizing the drug, and our government should begin to overlook the current laws and work in order to change them. They would be able to regulate it to their advantage and make a profitable revenue. Some states are already realizing the benefits and attempting to make changes. The reelection of the new president and a start to a new term brought about a great victory in the fight to legalize marijuana. On November 6, 2012 prohibition came to an end in Colorado and Washington State. The two states made it legal to smoke marijuana recreationally, without any prescription or medical use. Prior to this, Colorado and Washington were among the 18 states with medical marijuana laws but became the first in the United States toà approve it recreationally. An article in the New York Times stated that Even though it will take months before they write the rules and make other regulations, ââ¬Å"As soon as the laws are certified, it will be legal under Colorado and Washington law for adults 21 years and older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. In Colorado, people will be able to grow as many as six plants. In Washington, users will have to buy their marijuana from state-licensed providers.â⬠(Healy, 2012) In conclusion, I believe that the legalization of marijuana would have a positive influence on America. Legalizing the now illegal drug will allow Americans to cultivate and use hemp to a great advantage. Billions of dollars would be saved in government expenditures, and revenue from taxation on the regulated sale of marijuana would bring in billions of dollars as well. Although the impact on a persons health is debatable, to this day, not one person has been killed from a marijuana overdose. Smoking cigarettes daily and drinking alcohol on an every day basis is much more detrimental to a persons health then marijuana, therefore, this is really no specific reason that the drug shouldnt be legalized. Also, most importantly, using marijuana for medical use would benefit the thousands of people suffering with terminal illnesses.

A Comparison of Seamus Heaneys Poem Digging and The song of the old mo
I have looked at the poem 'Digging' by Seamus Heaney. The poem is about the poet digging into his past and appears to be a modest poem. The "nicking and slicing neatly" that Heaney says in his poem can also apply to the crafting of a poem. Heaney seems unhappy and distanced from his farming family roots however he shows a good amount of admiration for farming men. Heaney shows the skill and dignity of labour. The expertise is rather admired than the strength and the technique is very precisely explained. He constantly has memories of common places, which very few people would notice, but Heaney thinks that these memories should be recognised. He is frustrated at how different he is to his family. Maybe in those days writing poems may not have been seen as manly. I am going to compare this poem 'Digging' to another poem which is called 'The song of the old mother' written by William Butler Yeats. First of all in Heaney's poem he is talking about himself as a child to his grandfather, while Yeats is talking about the older people to the younger generation. "My grandfather cut more turf in a day, Than any other man in toners bog." This quote shows that Heaney was talking as a child to his grandfather. "And the young lie long and dream in their bed." This quote shows that Yeats is talking about the younger generation and by calling them young she is implying that she is significantly older than the people she is referring to. In both poems they describe heavy manual work, but in 'Digging' they love doing the work that they do and in 'The song of the old mother' she is unhappy and bitter that she has to scrub... ...s family had a close relationship because when he was young he did not really describe any conflict between them but in Blake's poem he does show the love of the weeping mother. When the farther kisses the child he is showing his ever nigh love of god for the child. In Blake's poem he is implying the worship of god (the farther) because he has involved god when simply a child has been lost from his parents. In Heany's poem he shows his personal love and respect for his farther and grandfather. "Once I carried him milk in a bottle Corked sloppily with paper." This quote can show in a way that he loved his farther because he cared enough to go get his farther some milk in a bottle. In conclusion I think that these poems have explored the relationships between different families from different generations.

Ceremony of marriage in Islam Essay
In Islam, marriages are a very important event most Muslim weddings are arranged, in order for an arranged marriage to take place both the boys/girls side must give consent, with arranged marriages both families make sure that the boyââ¬â¢s/girlââ¬â¢s (and their familyââ¬â¢s) reputation and history is accepted in society and that they have no flaws which would bring a bad name on their family all this is checked before the husband/wife enters into their family. A Muslim boy/girl have to choose their partners very carefully as it is an arranged marriage and they are expected to spend their whole life with a stranger they have to get to know them and know all their ways of living and habits etcâ⬠¦ before they agree to marry them although sometimes the parents of the girl/boy are very strict and may not allow this to happen they may just decide for their son/daughter to get married to someone without asking their opinion this may be a problem sometimes as the married couple may not get along or there may be other problems, another problem with arranged marriages is that if the parents of the Muslim girl/ boy agree to the marriage without the daughters or/ sons consent then it is like they are deciding the fate if their child without the child having a say in it, but mostly this is not the case and the girl/boy is asked their opinion about the person they are going to marry because Muslims believe that a marriage which is forced is doomed t o failure. In Islam getting married to a member of your family whether its intermediate or distant family is very common. The majority of Muslim marriages are arranged although there are a few love marriages but in the Muslim community love marriages are not really an option and it seen as a very dangerous thing to do sometimes muslims regard being under the influence of loveââ¬â¢ as a intoxicating state of mind that could easily cloud judgement. Parents are thought to find good compatible partners for their children and sometimes they do no agree to give consent to love marriages. Muslims are encouraged to have an arranged marriage although sometimes people have a mixed marriage this is allowed as long as it is a Sikh, Indian, or a Christian person. If an Muslim gets married then the wife has to follow the husbands religion and convert the children have to follow their fathers religion but it is preferred to get married to another Muslim because this way their community expands and Islam as a whole expands. When the marriage is decided upon (arranged) before the wedding many other celebrations and ceremonyââ¬â¢s have to take place. Such as the engagement where both the girls and boys family gets together and have an engagement ceremony where the bride and groom get together and exchange rings the other event is the Mahr (dowry) The Mahr is the dowry paid by the husband to the wife. It is a sum negotiated by the husband and wife, which she can keep when or if they later get divorced, if the wife wants to get divorced without the consent of her husband she can but only if the mahr is returned. It is against, the sunnah of the prophet to demand high dowries or not give to give a dowry at all or pay the brides father in compensation for his daughters services at home. After this follows the actual Nikah (wedding) the Nikah is a simple affair the ceremony is plain and simple consisting of readings from the Qurââ¬â¢an and vows are exchanged in front of witnesses. There are also a few prayers recited for this happy occasion the imam is present and no religious official is necessary. The bride does not have to be present as long as she sends her ââ¬Ëwaliââ¬â¢ or marriage representative and also two witnesses of agreement to the wedding and she can be at home. The signing of the Nikah (wedding) contractââ¬â¢s can be changed the original date by weeks or even months or years just like with the prophet and his wife Aishah. If the girl is at home they declare three times that she accepts the wedding. Nikah is not considered to be a sacred contract or ââ¬Ëmade in heavenââ¬â¢ but is a binding contract giving the husband and wife both equal rights and responsibilities. Due to the fact that ââ¬Ë loveââ¬â¢ is not necessarily present at the time a bride can include into the contract certain conditions that would help her if she later wished to have a divorce she could also make it clear that she does not give permission to allow her husband to have a second wife. After the Nikah follows the Walimah this is the actual wedding party the bride may not dress up for the Nikah but she will certainly dress up for the Walimah. The walimah usually consists of the actual wedding feast it can take place within three days of the couple living together. Presents are usually given presents given are usually money. It is a tradition to have huge expensive parties in some societies but this is not religious or part of Islam, the prophet disapproves of lavish especially if it causes problems between the husband and wife.
